Audience Engagement Manager, Observer

Location: New York, NY

Observer is seeking an organized, creative, and ambitious Audience Engagement Manager to join our newsroom in our New York office. This role reports to the Director of Audience and will be responsible for execution of our audience and SEO strategy across multiple platforms and channels like newsletters, Flipboard, partnerships, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and more. This role goes beyond creating social media copy, will be key to the growth of Observer’s readership, and provides opportunities for professional growth.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience managing social media and executing other audience development strategies; newsroom experience preferred.

  • SEO knowledge is a must: you’ll be conducting SEO keyword research, optimizing pieces to be in line with SEO best practices, and pitching long-tail story ideas

  • Experience with newsletter strategy a plus.

  • Good news judgment and excellent writing and copy-editing skills. We need someone who can make our social accounts sing.

  • Experience with a variety of social media platforms and managing social media accounts for large audiences.

  • Ability to take direction as part of a team and take on solo projects.

  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.

  • Have managed audience growth partnerships and can come up with creative new approaches in that space.

  • Experience collecting, building, and analyzing data from Google Analytics, Twitter, Facebook, newsletters, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to newsroom SEO operations.

  • Optimize and schedule content for newsletter, social, and partner distribution.

  • Track breaking news and trending topics to pitch idea to the editorial team.

  • Contribute to the execution of audience strategies across all social channels.

  • Create analytics reports that really tell the story of what’s happening.

  • Generate and share deep insights from those reports about what our audience is asking for, and help the editorial team figure out how to deliver on that.

  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e. new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements.)
